“Philip Morris USA Loses Appeal of Widow’s Label Warning Win”: Bloomberg News has a report that begins, “Philip Morris USA lost an appeal of a $4.93 million award to the widow of a man who said he wouldn’t have started smoking when he was 13 years old in the 1960s if he had known it caused cancer, in the latest setback for cigarette companies battling historic wrongful-death litigation.”

“Plaintiffs brought this action challenging on constitutional grounds New York State’s requirement that all children be vaccinated in order to attend public school.” So begins a unanimous per curiam opinion that a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit issued today.

Today’s ruling affirms the district court’s rejection of the constitutional challenge.

And BBC News reports that “Alan Dershowitz sued in Prince Andrew sex abuse case; Lawyers representing a woman who has alleged Prince Andrew and law professor Alan Dershowitz had sex with her when she was a minor are suing Mr Dershowitz for defamation.”
