“Supreme Court ruling gives Burris the Senate seat, attorney says; Durbin disputes assertion that he is now a lock”: This article appears today in The Chicago Tribune.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports today that “Still no seat for Burris despite state high court ruling that White’s signature not needed.”

And The Wall Street Journal reports today that “Burris’s Appointment Backed by Illinois Court; Sen. Durbin Cites Impasse Over Seating Burris.”

“Yemen releases Osama bin Laden’s former driver”: The Associated Press provides a report that begins, “The lawyer for Osama bin Laden’s former driver says his client has been released from a Yemeni prison after serving out his sentence. Lawyer Khaled Al-Anas says Salim Hamdan was released Friday.”

“President Gulliver’s Lawyer: A nominee who wants to tie down the executive branch.” The Wall Street Journal today contains an editorial that begins, “Barack Obama’s cabinet choices are understandably getting most media attention, but everyone knows policy is also made by the sub-cabinet. So we think more public scrutiny should be drawn to Mr. Obama’s choice of Dawn Johnsen to lead one of the executive branch’s most important legal offices. Her appointment makes sense for a President Gulliver, but not for a Commander in Chief fighting terrorists.”

“English learning case hits high court”: Today’s edition of The Arizona Republic contains an article that begins, “The U.S. Supreme Court decided Friday to step into Arizona’s divisive legal battle about how much money public schools should spend teaching English to children who enter school unable to speak the language.”

And today in The Arizona Daily Star, Howard Fischer has an article headlined “Court: State can argue it’s met English requirement.”

“Obama’s Attorney General Pick Faces Growing Criticism”: This front page article appears today in The Washington Post.

The Los Angeles Times reports today that “Senate panel wants testimony about Eric Holder; A former pardons attorney has said the attorney general nominee pushed subordinates to acquiesce in a controversial clemency case when he worked for President Clinton.”

And law.com provides a report headlined “What to Watch for at Attorney General Nominee’s Hearing: Holder enjoys much support, but it’s not all friendly faces in the Senate.”
