“Supreme Court candidate Ed Fallone says he’d overturn donations rule”: In yesterday’s edition of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Patrick Marley had an article that begins, “State Supreme Court candidate Ed Fallone said Thursday that if elected he would seek to reverse a court rule that says justices do not have to step aside in cases involving parties who gave them political donations.”

“Appointment of the Honorable Robert E. Bacharach to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals”: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit issued this news release yesterday.

Judge Bacharach is the older brother of Oklahoma Gazette editor-in-chief Phil Bacharach. That publication’s “Chicken-Fried News” feature yesterday had an essay titled “Here comes the judge” that concludes: “Chicken-Fried News is certainly impressed with all the accolades about the judge — who happens to be the older brother of this rag’s editor-in-chief — but we must take issue with [Senator] Coburn’s assessment that ‘you cannot find a blemish on this man in terms of his personal integrity.’ Where’s the integrity in overachieving just for the sake of making your younger brother look like a comparative slacker? Where’s the integrity in having beat the crap out of that aforementioned brother? And would it kill him to pick up the tab once in a while?”

“A Divide on Voting Rights in a Town Where Blood Spilled”: This article appears today in The New York Times.

The Christian Science Monitor has an article headlined “Is Massachusetts more racist than Mississippi, as Chief Justice Roberts hints? In deciding whether to strike down a portion of the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court is focusing on whether the South has redeemed its racist history; Massachusetts, though, has a quibble with Chief Justice Roberts.”

Online at Politico.com, Josh Gerstein has a post titled “Massachusetts official slams chief justice’s comments on Voting Rights Act.”

And today’s broadcast of NPR’s “Weekend Edition Saturday” contained an audio segment titled “Voting Rights Act Takes Harsh Criticism In Court” featuring Nina Totenberg.
