“Starbucks wins name spat”: Yesterday’s edition of Shanghai Daily contained an article that begins, “The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court yesterday ordered Shanghai Xingbake Cafe Co Ltd and its Nanjing Road branch to drop the word ‘Xingbake’ from its name. The court ruled Xingbake has conducted illegal competition. It was also ordered to pay 500,000 yuan (US$61,728) to Starbucks Corporation, which uses Xingbake as its Chinese name, and run a public apology in the Xinmin Evening News. In Chinese, ‘Xing’ means star and ‘bake’ sounds a little like bucks.”

In other coverage, China Daily reports that “Judge rules for Starbucks in copyright violation case.”

BBC News reports that “Starbucks wins Chinese logo case.”

Agence France-Presse offers an article headlined “Copyright win for Starbucks.”

“Alito Supporters Portray Nominee as Less Polished”: This article appears today in The New York Times.

The Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger today reports that “Judge’s coffee is really hot; Sales of Alito’s signature blend are steaming at Newark shop.” The newspaper also reports on “What’s in it.”

The Palm Beach Post contains an editorial entitled “Alito and Big Brother.”

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram contains an editorial entitled “Uncertainties abound.”

And in The Topeka Capital-Journal, Gregory L. Schneider has an op-ed entitled “Plenty of pertinent facts on which to judge Alito.”
