“Veteran blocked from protesting on Monument Circle wins federal appeal”: Tim Evans of The Indianapolis Star has a news update that begins, “A veteran who was threatened with arrest because he did not have a permit to conduct a protest on Monument Circle has won a federal appeal that could allow other protesters to use the site without a permit.”

In today’s newspaper, Barnes has a front page article headlined “Race on same-sex marriage cases runs through Virginia.”

Update: In other coverage of today’s hearing, Richard Wolf of USA Today has an article headlined “Legal fight for gay marriage reaches Virginia court; The case is but one of 47 same-sex marriage lawsuits pending in 24 states, one or more of which could reach the Supreme Court in the near future.”

“What Drives Volokh?” Today at his “Simple Justice” blog, Scott H. Greenfield has this post about a petition for panel rehearing that the prevailing party filed recently in the Obsidian Finance Group, LLC v. Cox appeal pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. My initial posts reporting on the Ninth Circuit’s ruling in that appeal can be accessed here and here.

An update to Scott’s post notes that yesterday attorney Marc J. Randazza filed a motion for leave to file an amicus brief that in substance opposes the relief sought in the petition for panel rehearing.

Update: Today at her “Trial Insider” blog, Pamela A. MacLean has a post titled “Journalist Seeks Retraction from Court” reporting on the petition for panel rehearing but omitting any mention of the proposed Randazza amicus brief.

The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk today contains a front page article headlined “Va. House OKs measure to defend gay marriage ban.” And last Thursday’s newspaper contained an article headlined “Norfolk couple is at center of gay marriage legal fight.”

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported yesterday that “Landmark same-sex marriage case will be heard Tuesday; Hearing on ban of same-sex unions set for Tuesday in Norfolk.”

The Associated Press reports that “Court hearing set over gay marriage ban in Va.”

And Reuters reports that “U.S. court to hear lawsuit against Virginia gay marriage ban.”
