“Supreme Court clarifies Canada’s bestiality law with ruling”: Gloria Galloway of The Toronto Globe and Mail has an article that begins, “The parliamentarians who wrote Canada’s bestiality law understood the word to imply the physical penetration of an animal, and it is not the role of jurists to broaden the definition to include other acts, the country’s top court ruled Thursday.”

John Paul Tasker of CBC News reports that “Supreme Court’s bestiality ruling prompts call to change ‘archaic’ animal welfare laws.”

The Canadian Press has reports headlined “Supreme Court: Crime Of Bestiality Limited To Penetration” and “Animal-rights advocates call for stronger laws after high court’s bestiality ruling; Ruling rejects notion that the offence encompasses any sexual activity between a person and an animal.”

Ethan Lou of Reuters has a report headlined “Most animal sex acts not against Canada’s bestiality law: court.”

And Ken Shepherd of The Washington Times reports that “Canadian high court throws out sex offender’s bestiality conviction; Rules penetration necessary to charge with offense.”
