“Mental State Still at Issue In Va. Death Penalty Case”: This article appears today in The Washington Post. And yesterday, the newspaper reported that “Kaine Delays Execution Of Inmate for 6 Months; Inquiry Into Killer’s Mental State Ordered.”

The Richmond Times-Dispatch today reports that “Opinions vary on Kaine’s decision.” And yesterday’s newspaper reported that “Kaine blocks execution.”

The Danville Register & Bee reports today that “Bolling blasts Kaine over stay.” Yesterday’s newspaper, meanwhile, contained an article headlined “Walton’s execution DELAYED” and an editorial entitled “What a choice.”

And The Virginian-Pilot reported yesterday that “Kaine delays Walton execution, calls for mental evaluation.”

“Gov. Is the Judge: Janavs Back to the Bench.” The Los Angeles Times today contains an article that begins, “The voters spoke, and now it’s the governor’s turn. Less than 72 hours after the Los Angeles County electorate replaced Judge Dzintra Janavs with a bagel store owner with limited legal experience, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Friday that he would reappoint the veteran jurist to a vacant seat on the bench ‘as soon as she completes the paperwork.'” That newspaper’s earlier coverage of this matter appears here.
