“Court: Ability to police U.S. spying program limited.” Friday’s edition of The Washington Post will contain an article that begins, “The leader of the secret court that is supposed to provide critical oversight of the government’s vast spying programs said that its ability do so is limited and that it must trust the government to report when it improperly spies on Americans.”

The newspaper will also contain a related article headlined “NSA broke privacy rules thousands of times per year, audit finds.”

“Federal appeals court overturns convictions for two in Road Dog racketeering case”: Today’s edition of The Modesto Bee contains this article reporting on a ruling that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued yesterday.

Yesterday’s opinion begins, “We must decide whether an FBI investigation qualifies as an ‘official proceeding’ under a federal statute criminalizing obstruction of justice.” The opinion then proceeds to observe that “The facts of this case read like an episode of the fictional television drama Sons of Anarchy.”
