“Boyce Martin Jr., giant of bench, has died”: Andrew Wolfson of The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky has an article that begins, “Boyce F. Martin Jr., an unapologetic liberal judge who in 34 years on the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals wrote more than 1,500 opinions, including one permitting affirmative action as well as the nation’s first appellate decision affirming what is known as Obamacare, died early Wednesday, according to an email distributed by one of his former law clerks. He was 80 and had been in failing health.”

“Kansas Parents Worry Schools Are Slipping Amid Budget Battles”: Julie Bosman has this front page article in today’s edition of The New York Times.

As the article explains, “[t]he struggle over school funding in Kansas reached a new crisis point when the State Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the Republican-dominated Legislature had not abided by its constitutional mandate to finance public schools equitably, especially poorer districts with less property wealth.”

Ninth Circuit reconsiders Model Mayhem appeal, and model suing that web site wins again: Yesterday, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued this ruling on panel rehearing.

Courthouse News Service reports on yesterday’s ruling in an article headlined “Raped Model’s Suit Against Website Revived.”
