“Justice Scalia once said that he wished all federal judges were given a stamp that read ‘stupid but constitutional.'” So begins an opinion that Chief Judge Diane P. Wood issued today on behalf of a unanimous three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

The opinion considers and rejects a once suspended teacher’s constitutional challenge to the policy of the Chicago Board of Education forbidding teachers from using racial epithets in front of students, no matter what the purpose.

“Documents connect Markel’s ex-wife’s family to murder plot”: Karl Etters of The Tallahassee Democrat has an article that begins, “Investigators believe the killing of Dan Markel stemmed from the ‘desperate desire’ by his ex-wife Wendi Adelson’s family to relocate her, taking the couple’s children to South Florida.”

You can access at this link the probable cause affidavit issued in connection with the recent arrest of a suspect in the case.

Yesterday evening, Etters reported that “Markel murder suspect arrives in Leon County.” Today, the newspaper posted online a video under the heading “Sigfredo Garcia at first appearance Thursday morning.”

“Court finds evidence of illegal retaliation by Arizona regents”: In today’s edition of The Arizona Daily Star, Howard Fischer has a front page article that begins, “Saying there’s evidence of illegal retaliation, a federal appeals court gave the go-ahead Wednesday for the Arizona Students Association to sue the Board of Regents to get back money the group says was illegally withheld.”
