“Possible sequel for Patricia Cornwell saga”: Milton J. Valencia of The Boston Globe has an article that begins, “Crime writer Patricia Cornwell, who won a $50.9 million lawsuit against her former financial services company only to see it disappear because of a legal technicality, won an appeal Monday, granting her a sequel to the first trial.”

You can access today’s ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit at this link.

“The Judge as Umpire: Ten Principles.” On March 30, 2015, D.C. Circuit Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh delivered that year’s Pope John XXIII Lecture at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.

The video of Judge Kavanaugh’s lecture has been available online on YouTube via this link since April 2015, although fewer than 500 people have viewed it as of moments before I published this post. The text of the lecture is now receiving wider distribution (even apart from the foregoing link on “How Appealing”), as it appears in the Spring 2016 issue of The Catholic University Law Review.

Programming note: My all-too-brief visit to lovely southern California will be coming to an end on Saturday morning (local time) as I begin my journey back east. This evening, I will be making my first-ever visit to Angel Stadium to see the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim host the Chicago White Sox. [Update: Final score — Angels 7, White Sox 0. Both the game and my visit to Angel Statium were great fun.]

Additional posts will appear here on Saturday night. As always while I am traveling, “How Appealing” readers are invited to follow this blog’s Twitter feed, where appellate-related retweets are likely to appear more frequently. I am reliably advised that this blog’s Twitter feed is only a few followers shy of 6,000, so you could help me reach that milestone if you act soon.
