“U.S. Supreme Court stays Thomas Arthur execution”: Brian Lyman and Kelsey Davis have this front page article in today’s edition of The Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser.

In today’s edition of The Birmingham News, Kent Faulk has a front page article headlined “Tommy Arthur avoids execution 7th time: Supreme Court issues stay in Alabama murder-for-hire.”

The Associated Press reports that “Supreme Court stays execution of Alabama inmate.”

Reuters reports that “Supreme Court puts Alabama execution on hold for seventh time.”

Tasneem Nashrulla, Chris Geidner, and Chris McDaniel of BuzzFeed News report that “Supreme Court Grants Stay Of Scheduled Alabama Execution; Tommy Arthur was scheduled to die Thursday for a 1982 murder-for-hire; The Supreme Court halted the execution just before midnight.”

“Justice Antonin Scalia Bar Memorial”: In a development that will someday lead to the live-streaming of its oral arguments, the U.S. Supreme Court today at 1:45 p.m. eastern time will live-stream over its web site a meeting of the Court’s bar to “honor the memory of the late Justice Antonin Scalia.”

As noted in a news release that the Court issued last month, the bar meeting “will feature remarks by the Acting Solicitor General of the United States Ian H. Gershengorn; Time Warner Executive Vice President and General Counsel Paul T. Cappuccio; Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner Kristin A. Linsley; George Washington University Professor of Law Bradford R. Clark; Kirkland & Ellis partner Paul D. Clement; and U.S. Circuit Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton.” With the exception of Gershengorn, these speakers all clerked for Justice Scalia.
