This week, news emerged that Rhode Island’s highest court will have another vacancy at the start of 2021. John Howell of The Cranston Herald had an article headlined “Judge Flaherty rules it’s time for him to ‘pursue other things.’

And Patrick Anderson of The Providence Journal reported that “R.I. Supreme Court Justice Francis X. Flaherty to retire.”

According to the article, Arizona’s highest court in its unanimous opinion “took a swipe at the nation’s high court for issuing its original rulings barring life sentences for juveniles in the first place, saying those decisions were based on ‘judgments of other nations and the international community.'”
