“Groups ask Supreme Court to declare the all-male military draft unconstitutional”: Robert Barnes of The Washington Post has this report.

The origin of this dispute is fascinating — although today’s article fails to discuss this aspect of the case’s history. As today’s article explains, the ACLU now represents the challengers to the law, making it something of a liberal cause célèbre. But the suit did not start out that way.

On appeal to the Fifth Circuit, the law’s challengers were represented by Marc Angelucci, a devoted men’s rights activist who was shot dead answering the door to his home a mere four months after the oral argument.

That murder received renewed attention in late July 2020. Nicole Hong, William K. Rashbaum, Mihir Zaveri, and Katherine Rosman of The New York Times reported that “Suspect in Death of N.J. Judge’s Son Is Linked to California Killing; Roy Den Hollander, the ‘anti-feminist’ who is the prime suspect in the New Jersey shooting, may also have killed a rival men’s rights lawyer, officials say.”

Colin Atagi and Chris Woodyard of USA Today reported that “Killing of men’s rights lawyer in California probed for link to shooting at federal judge’s home.”

Joshua Bote of USA Today reported that “Shooting suspect Roy Den Hollander was a men’s rights activist. What does that mean?

And Michael Balsamo and Stefanie Dazio of The Associated Press reported that “Feds probe men’s rights lawyer in 2nd killing.”
